Denver Newborn Posing Workflow - Potato Sack Pose
Every single session in the Denver newborn studio, I start with a very intentional idea of what poses I will get. I have a very strategic workflow that makes sessions flow very easily. I will be going over all of the poses from start to finish. The first pose I ALWAYS do is the potato sack pose. There is a reason for this, as I have said I do everything with intention. I start with the potato sack pose because most newborns love to be swaddled, and being swaddled puts them into a deep comfortable sleep. The potato sack pose is a favorite of mine as well because it displays the sweet newborn babies face so perfectly, with their sweet little hands peeking out. I will show some examples of the potato sack pose below.
From this pose it is really easy to get more shots, from different angles and by simply laying the baby down on the flokati and shooting from above, and at different angles to get the most variety for the parents. As I said, I have almost never had a newborn baby in the studio that I haven’t been able to get these shots for. It is a great way to start the session and if the baby decides he/she doesn't want to cooperate the rest of the session, well I still got a TON of amazing shots.
And I don’t stop there with this potato sack wrap! Once I have all of the angles I want with them on the posing bag, I move them into a prop. Either a basket, bowl or even a little box works as well. And just like that you have three poses and two set ups and a ton of images.
From here I will usually start back on the newborn posing bag, but depending if there are siblings and they are ready to go, this wrapping technique transitions perfectly to those sweet sibling poses. There will be another post specifically for the siblings and family.
